Electrical Updates in Los Angeles
A 100-amp panel was generous in 1962. It was not designed for a heat pump, an induction range, an EV charger and a home office running at the same time. This is the piece of an efficiency plan that people discover last and should solve first, because every electrified appliance you add later runs into it. Older Los Angeles homes also routinely still carry cloth-insulated branch circuits, ungrounded two-prong outlets, and panel brands that are no longer considered safe to keep in service. This is the one category where deferring the work carries real risk rather than just cost.

Lighting is the quick win. The panel is the one that decides what every other upgrade costs you.

LED lighting uses at least 75% less energy than incandescent and lasts up to 25 times longer. Lighting is about 10% of a California home's electricity.

Incandescent bulbs release about 90% of their energy as heat, so in an air conditioned room you pay twice, once for the light and again to remove the heat.

LADWP pays up to $1,000 on a residential EV charger, or $1,500 for customers on Lifeline or EZ-SAVE, plus $250 for a dedicated EV meter.
The straight answer
Doing the panel first is not us finding extra work. It is the cheapest sequence. If you upgrade the panel while the walls are open for something else, you pay once for the access. If you discover the constraint on the day the heat pump arrives, you pay for a second mobilisation, a second permit and a delayed job.

Service and panel upgrades
We upgrade services to 200 amps, replace obsolete and recalled panels, add subpanels for additions and ADUs, and coordinate with the utility and the building department so the work is permitted and inspected. If you are planning a heat pump, an EV charger, a heat pump water heater or a kitchen remodel, the panel is the constraint to solve first, and doing it once ahead of the other trades is always cheaper.
Circuits, rewiring and grounding
Dedicated circuits for EV charging, kitchens, laundry and HVAC. Whole-home and partial rewiring where cloth or aluminium branch wiring is present. Grounded receptacle conversion, GFCI and AFCI protection where code requires it, and generator or battery interlocks.
Lighting that pays for itself quickly
Recessed and under-cabinet LED, exterior and landscape lighting, ceiling fans, and controls that matter more than people expect, because a dimmer or an occupancy sensor saves the electricity a fitting never uses. Fans are worth calling out on their own. Moving air lets you hold a thermostat several degrees higher at the same comfort level, which is a cheap way to shave a cooling bill.

Questions we get about Electrical
How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
Common signs are a 100A or smaller service, a full panel with no open slots, breakers that trip when appliances run together, or plans to add an EV charger or heat pump. We will assess it at no charge.
Do you pull permits?
Always, for any work that requires one. Unpermitted electrical work is a problem at resale and a genuine safety issue, and for LADWP rebates on other trades a closed permit is what releases the money.
Can you add an EV charger to my existing panel?
Sometimes, depending on your available capacity. We run a load calculation first and tell you honestly whether a dedicated circuit is enough or the service needs upgrading.
